Why Europe Must Tighten Oversight of Iranian Diplomatic Missions Now

The line separating conventional diplomacy from state-sponsored asymmetry has completely collapsed. Over the past several months, European security agencies have unravelled a disturbing pattern of surveillance, influence operations, and hybrid activity stretching across the heart of the continent. Most alarming of all is the evidence pointing toward the hubs facilitating these operations: formal embassies and diplomatic missions. For decades, the West treated Iranian state actions as a localized Middle Eastern problem. However, the recent weaponization of social media platforms by Iranian embassies -using coordinated satire, memes, and political trolling to mock international security threats and mask escalating aggression-unmasks a deeper institutional malaise. When official diplomatic channels are diverted to run deniable, grey-zone information campaigns and coordinate intimidation, it is no longer just bad diplomatic etiquette. It is a profound structural threat to European in...

Pakistan Rattles India with Firm Response as Patience Runs Out

In a dramatic shift from its previously measured approach, Pakistan has delivered what analysts are calling a "firm and decisive response" to ongoing provocations from India, signaling a potential turning point in the dynamic between the nuclear-armed neighbors. The development comes after what Pakistani officials described as "a prolonged period of strategic restraint" that yielded little diplomatic progress.

The response, which included both military and diplomatic dimensions, appears to have caught New Delhi off guard. According to security experts, Pakistan's calculated moves demonstrated enhanced capabilities and strategic clarity that has forced a reassessment within Indian policy circles. "This wasn't an emotional reaction but rather a carefully calibrated response following extensive deliberation," noted one regional analyst familiar with the situation.

Pakistani military officials emphasized that their actions were defensive in nature and proportionate to what they characterized as persistent Indian aggression. "Our patience has limits, and those limits were tested repeatedly," said a senior defense source speaking on condition of anonymity. The response reportedly targeted specific pressure points while avoiding civilian areas and maintaining clear communication to prevent unintended escalation.

The international community has responded with calls for restraint from both sides, though several diplomatic sources have privately acknowledged understanding Pakistan's position after what they described as "a pattern of provocative actions" that received inadequate international attention. Regional powers have intensified diplomatic efforts to create space for dialogue.

Indian media reactions have been mixed, with some outlets acknowledging the need to recalibrate their approach while others maintain more hardline positions. Markets in both countries experienced volatility as investors assessed the implications of this new phase in bilateral relations.

As the situation continues to evolve, the critical question remains whether this firm Pakistani stance will lead to a reset in relations based on mutual respect, or whether it represents the beginning of a new, more volatile chapter between these nuclear neighbors. What seems clear is that the previously established patterns of engagement have fundamentally changed.

More than 1 mln people evacuated from Pakistan's Punjab due to floods

Pakistan 's eastern towns of Chiniot and Hafizabad face a risk of catastrophic floods if an irrigation barrage crumbles on a major river upstream after heavy rains swelled it beyond capacity, officials warned on Thursday. Nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan are battling torrential monsoon rains that have unleashed flash floods , swelled rivers and filled dams, with 60 deaths this month in Indian Kashmir , and Pakistan's toll at 805 since late June. Any  flooding blamed on India stands to inflame relations between the archfoes, embroiled in a tense stand-off since a brief conflict in May that was their worst fighting in decades. The waters of the Chenab river in Pakistan's sprawling province of Punjab threatened to burst through a 3,300-foot (1,000-m) concrete barrage at Qadirabad that regulates flows, siphoning them into a canal irrigation network. "It is a crisis situation," said a technical expert at the National Disaster Management Authority ...

No Ban On Airing Imran's Speeches, Pemra Tells LHC

In a recent development, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) clarified to the Lahore High Court that there is no longer a ban on broadcasting former Prime Minister Imran Khan's speeches. This revelation came during the hearing of a petition filed by Imran, who had challenged Pemra's decision to prohibit satellite TV channels from airing his speeches and press talks. The initial ban was imposed swiftly after Imran criticized former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, accusing him of shielding current rulers in alleged corruption cases. Imran argued that Pemra's ban was fueled by vengeance, leading to a legal battle that spanned eight hearings. During the recent court session, Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza stressed that Pemra should refrain from pressuring TV channels on the concerns raised by the petitioner. Surprisingly, Pemra's counsel, Haroon Duggal, stated unequivocally that there is no existing ban on broadcasting Imran Khan's speeches. This reso...
