Israel’s interception of Gaza flotilla draws global ire as Pakistan demands release of detained activists

  Pakistan and several other  countries  on Thursday condemned Israel’s “dastardly attack” on the  Global Sumud Flotilla  (GSF) after its forces intercepted the flotilla heading to break Israel’s siege of Gaza and deliver aid. Israeli forces  began intercepting  the flotilla’s latest bid to reach Gaza late last night, the fleet said. Israel has so far intercepted 39 boats with foreign activists on board to Gaza, leaving only one vessel still sailing towards the Palestinian enclave, the flotilla organisers said today. The 45-vessel flotilla, with activists and politicians including  Greta Thunberg  on board, left Spain last month to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza, where the United Nations has warned of famine. Former Pakistani senator  Mushtaq Ahmad Khan  was also on board. Hours after Tel Aviv’s move drew global condemnation, Israeli foreign ministry posted on X that all on board the flotilla were safe would be “deported to Europe”...

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to enhancing its economic relationship with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), emphasizing the need to transform bilateral ties into a mutually beneficial economic partnership. During a recent meeting with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of deepening cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, and technology.


The Prime Minister's visit to the UAE comes at a time when both nations are looking to strengthen their economic ties. Sharif expressed his desire to expand collaboration in diverse fields, particularly in trade and investment, which are crucial for both countries' economic growth. He noted that the UAE is one of Pakistan's largest trading partners and a significant source of foreign investment, making it essential to foster a robust economic relationship.


In addition to trade, the discussions also focused on enhancing cooperation in sectors such as energy, agriculture, and information technology. The Prime Minister emphasized the potential for joint ventures and investments that could benefit both nations. He acknowledged the UAE's role in supporting Pakistan's development initiatives and expressed gratitude for the ongoing assistance provided by the Emirati government.


Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the Pakistani diaspora in the UAE, which plays a vital role in strengthening bilateral ties. He noted that the contributions of Pakistani expatriates to the UAE's economy are significant and that their remittances are crucial for Pakistan's economic stability. Sharif assured that the government is committed to addressing the concerns of the Pakistani community in the UAE.


The meeting between the two leaders also touched upon regional security and stability, with both sides agreeing on the need for collaborative efforts to address common challenges.
