Israel’s interception of Gaza flotilla draws global ire as Pakistan demands release of detained activists

Pakistan and several other  countries  on Thursday condemned Israel’s “dastardly attack” on the  Global Sumud Flotilla  (GSF) after its forces intercepted the flotilla heading to break Israel’s siege of Gaza and deliver aid. Israeli forces  began intercepting  the flotilla’s latest bid to reach Gaza late last night, the fleet said. Israel has so far intercepted 39 boats with foreign activists on board to Gaza, leaving only one vessel still sailing towards the Palestinian enclave, the flotilla organisers said today. The 45-vessel flotilla, with activists and politicians including  Greta Thunberg  on board, left Spain last month to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza, where the United Nations has warned of famine. Former Pakistani senator  Mushtaq Ahmad Khan  was also on board. Hours after Tel Aviv’s move drew global condemnation, Israeli foreign ministry posted on X that all on board the flotilla were safe would be “deported to Europe”...

New Zealand Win Tri-Nation Series with Five-Wicket Victory Against Pakistan

New Zealand continued their unbeaten streak in the tri-nation series, beating Pakistan by five wickets in the last match played at the National Stadium in Karachi. In pursuit of a small total of 243 runs, New Zealand crossed the target in the 46th over, losing five wickets along the way.

New Zealand's innings was supported by half-centuries by Daryl Mitchell (57) and Tom Latham (56), with a useful 48 runs from Devon Conway. The side lost their opening wicket early when Will Young was caught LBW by Naseem Shah for five runs in the second over. Kane Williamson and Devon Conway then steadied the ship, posting 71 runs for the second wicket.

Williamson's removal in the 17th over provided Pakistan with a faint glimmer of hope, but Conway and Latham continued to capitalize on the platform laid by the New Zealand captain. Conway was two runs shy of a deserved half-century, caught at deep midwicket. Losses of wickets at important moments could not unsettle New Zealand, as Latham and Mitchell dictated the terms with a solid 87-run stand.

Pakistan's poor fielding enabled New Zealand to pick up important runs, and Mitchell made the most of it, scoring 57 off 58 balls with six fours. He got out after his seventh ODI fifty, thanks to Abrar Ahmed's caught and bowled. New Zealand's unbeaten streak in the tri-nation series is a reflection of the strength and resilience of their team.

Pakistan had batted first earlier and had managed to score 242 runs before being bowled out in 49.3 overs. Agha Salman (45) and Mohammad Rizwan (46) were the top scorers for the team, trying to mount a comeback after Pakistan had lost initial wickets. Will O'Rourke was the best bowler for New Zealand, having taken four wickets for 43 runs in 9.3 overs.

New Zealand's win of the tri-nation series is a major feat, and the team will be hoping to take this momentum with them in their next matches. Pakistan, however, will have to rebuild and address their frailties to return stronger in their next series.
