The UAE’s Strategic Shift: Why the Pivot to Asia Is a Survival Necessity

The geopolitical landscape of the Middle East is shifting beneath our feet. While the world watches the friction of the U.S.-Iran conflict, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is quietly-and brilliantly rewriting its economic destiny. It’s no longer just about being a bridge between East and West; the U AE is fundamentally deciding that its future lies in the East. Navigating Beyond the Shadow of Regional Conflict In my view, the UAE’s recent distancing from traditional blocs like OPEC and the GCC isn't just a policy change; it’s a masterclass in strategic autonomy. For decades, the Gulf states have been viewed through the lens of Western dependency. However, the recent waves of drone and missile threats have proven that the UAE can no longer afford to be a bystander in a -dangerous neighborhood. By pivoting to Asia, the Emirates is seeking strategic depth that the West simply cannot provide in the current climate. Why the UAE’s Exit from OPEC Was a Bold Power Move The decision to leav...

New Zealand Spoils Historic Day for Pakistan in Champions Trophy

In a below-par start to Pakistan's international season, New Zealand won the Champions Trophy opener by 60 runs in Karachi. The match was Pakistan's first ICC tournament in almost three decades, building up much hope among fans and officials. Though the occasion was historic, Pakistan's performance turned out to be subpar as a full-house crowd of 29,300 fans was left disappointed.

New Zealand posted an impressive target of 320 runs, led by magnificent centuries from Tom Latham and Will Young. Latham was especially outstanding, scoring an unbeaten 118 off 104 balls and claiming the Player of the Match award. Young added a respectable 107 from 113 balls, and the two shared an important partnership that stabilized the innings after initial failures, bringing their team back from 73 for 3.

Pakistan's reply was subdued, as they were unable to gain momentum in their pursuit. Khushdil Shah was the highlight of the Pakistani performance, leading the batting with a 69 off 49 balls. Babar Azam added a more controlled 64 runs, but the remaining batsmen collapsed, causing them to be bowled out for 260 runs in 47.2 overs. The New Zealand bowlers, especially Will O'Rourke and Mitchell Santner, played a key role in breaking down the Pakistani batting line.

The match was also of great importance because of Pakistan's long period of not hosting international cricket of major importance, mainly because of security issues. The last ICC event hosted by Pakistan was in the 1996 World Cup, when they co-hosted with India and Sri Lanka. The return to international cricket at home was celebrated with a big opening ceremony, with the Pakistan Air Force jets flying over the National Stadium.

This win saw New Zealand maintain their dominance against Pakistan, having already won two games in a tri-series a week earlier. The victory puts Pakistan in a difficult spot in Group A, as they are set to play their biggest rivals, India, in Dubai. The team will have to regroup in a hurry if they are to remain competitive in the tournament.

As the Champions Trophy continues, there is a lot at stake for all the teams. The top two teams from both groups will make it to the semi-finals, so every game is important. For Pakistan, the pressure to do well at home is particularly high, and the fans will be expecting a change in their next matches.

No Ban On Airing Imran's Speeches, Pemra Tells LHC

In a recent development, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) clarified to the Lahore High Court that there is no longer a ban on broadcasting former Prime Minister Imran Khan's speeches. This revelation came during the hearing of a petition filed by Imran, who had challenged Pemra's decision to prohibit satellite TV channels from airing his speeches and press talks. The initial ban was imposed swiftly after Imran criticized former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, accusing him of shielding current rulers in alleged corruption cases. Imran argued that Pemra's ban was fueled by vengeance, leading to a legal battle that spanned eight hearings. During the recent court session, Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza stressed that Pemra should refrain from pressuring TV channels on the concerns raised by the petitioner. Surprisingly, Pemra's counsel, Haroon Duggal, stated unequivocally that there is no existing ban on broadcasting Imran Khan's speeches. This reso...
