In a historic milestone, the Khunjerab Pass, the world’s highest paved border crossing, is now operational year-round for the first time in 77 years. Previously closed during winter due to harsh weather, this development follows extensive bilateral agreements between Pakistan and China, including at the 2023 Belt and Road Forum.

The initiative aims to facilitate uninterrupted trade and connectivity between Pakistan, China, and the broader Central Asian region. Upgrades to infrastructure, including advanced heating systems and logistical support, will ensure smooth operations even during extreme weather. This is expected to boost trade in sectors like machinery, textiles, food products, and renewable energy components, with analysts predicting a significant impact on Pakistan’s economic and strategic positioning in the region.

The decision underscores the deepening ties between the two nations and aligns with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), enhancing regional trade and cooperation. Many see this as a transformative step toward Pakistan’s integration into global supply chains and a testament to its commitment to fostering sustainable development.

This year-round opening of Khunjerab Pass is not only a logistical achievement but also a symbol of resilience and opportunity for regional prosperity.

In 2019, she experienced cardiac arrest and was advised that she needed a heart transplant by doctors in Pakistan.  Ayesha was placed on the transplant waiting list in India. The transplant was successfully performed by a team led by Dr. KG Suresh Rao at MGM Healthcare in Chennai....
