PM announces 100,000 free laptops for students PM says distribution of laptops will cover all four provinces and will be based purely on merit, without any nepotism

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the distribution of 100,000 free laptops among talented students across the country on merit, during an International Youth Day event in Islamabad on Tuesday. Premier stated that the distribution of these laptops will cover all four provinces, the federal capital Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, and will be based purely on merit, without any nepotism. He added that these laptops would be separate from the scheme for laptops through interest-based loans. Referring to Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, the prime minister mentioned that Pakistan’s victory on May 10 against a numerically larger and more boastful enemy had instilled a new vigour in the entire nation. He urged the youth to build on the spirit of this achievement and work hard to bring honour to the country. Blast in Quetta leaves nine injured

 


Today, a significant blast in Quetta injured at least nine people, including a traffic police officer and four children. The explosion took place on Zarghoon Road near key government facilities, including the Civil Secretariat and the Commissioner’s Office. The injured children were reportedly ragpickers, indicating they may have been close to the device when it detonated. Local authorities stated the explosive was a homemade device placed in a trash pile under a bridge, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact motives and perpetrators behind the attack   .


This attack comes amid increased security concerns in Pakistan, as the country has faced a rise in terror incidents this year. The situation has prompted military and security agencies to intensify efforts against extremist factions, particularly in Balochistan and other vulnerable regions. The persistence of such attacks underscores ongoing challenges in ensuring public safety and maintaining stability in the region .
