UAE and China Strengthen Strategic Partnership with High-Level Discussions



 The UAE-China relationship continues to strengthen as both countries recently held high-level discussions aimed at deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership. In September 2024, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Chinese Premier Li Qiang discussed ways to expand collaboration across various sectors, including energy, technology, and trade. This meeting followed a series of talks underscoring the importance of economic cooperation, with both nations committed to advancing mutual investments and trade agreements.


The UAE and China have a long history of robust bilateral relations, with diplomatic ties established in 1984. Over the years, their partnership has grown to include collaborations in politics, energy, and culture. China remains the UAE’s largest non-oil trading partner, with trade between the two nations reaching $81 billion in 2023  . Moreover, both countries are key players in global initiatives like China’s Belt and Road Initiative, in which the UAE is a strategic partner due to its critical location.


In a separate meeting, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also met with Premier Li Qiang to discuss further strengthening of bilateral relations. The leaders focused on enhancing cooperation in economic development and investments, while also exploring new avenues for collaboration. Both countries have shown a commitment to innovation and sustainable growth, ensuring their partnership continues to thrive in an increasingly globalized world  .
