Israel’s interception of Gaza flotilla draws global ire as Pakistan demands release of detained activists

  Pakistan and several other  countries  on Thursday condemned Israel’s “dastardly attack” on the  Global Sumud Flotilla  (GSF) after its forces intercepted the flotilla heading to break Israel’s siege of Gaza and deliver aid. Israeli forces  began intercepting  the flotilla’s latest bid to reach Gaza late last night, the fleet said. Israel has so far intercepted 39 boats with foreign activists on board to Gaza, leaving only one vessel still sailing towards the Palestinian enclave, the flotilla organisers said today. The 45-vessel flotilla, with activists and politicians including  Greta Thunberg  on board, left Spain last month to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza, where the United Nations has warned of famine. Former Pakistani senator  Mushtaq Ahmad Khan  was also on board. PTI's Lahore Jalsa: A Flop or a Hit?

 


The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Jalsa in Lahore on Saturday has sparked debate, with contrasting views regarding its success or failure. Some supporters hailed it as a symbol of PTI’s resilience, particularly under current political pressure. However, critics, along with independent observers, argue that the rally was underwhelming, falling short of previous high-energy PTI gatherings. 


Key figures from the PTI, including Imran Khan, were anticipated to deliver strong messages, but the turnout, although sizable, did not match the party’s historically massive crowds. Lahore, known as a political hub, has traditionally been a PTI stronghold, and expectations were high for this rally. Factors that might have contributed to the diminished scale include internal divisions within the party, recent political developments, and possibly a loss of momentum due to leadership challenges and ongoing legal battles.


On social media, PTI’s loyal base celebrated the event, emphasizing the importance of standing strong despite obstacles. Videos and images shared online showcased enthusiastic supporters, suggesting a devoted core still remains intact. However, opponents described the rally as a "flop," pointing to logistical challenges, visible empty spaces in the crowd, and a lack of fresh messaging as indicators of PTI’s waning influence.


Overall, while the Jalsa did not completely flop, it did not live up to the monumental standards set by PTI’s past rallies. The event has raised questions about the party’s future trajectory and ability to mobilize mass support.
