After a 13-year gap, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are set to hold the 12th session of the Pak-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) next month. The announcement was made following a phone call between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh.
Dar, currently on a visit to the United Kingdom, praised the UAE for agreeing to host the meeting, which is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties in various economic and financial sectors. The UAE is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner after China and the United States, making this development particularly significant. The JMC will provide a platform to discuss mutual areas of interest, including trade, investment, and cooperation under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
A joint business council meeting is also expected to be held on the sidelines of the JMC, further strengthening business-to-business relations between the two countries. The UAE, home to over a million Pakistani expatriates and a major source of remittances for Pakistan, offers strategic advantages for Pakistan’s exports due to its geographic proximity and ease of trade.
This meeting comes at a critical time for Pakistan, as the country seeks to expand its economic partnerships and attract foreign investment. Dar’s engagement with top UAE officials is seen as a positive step toward revitalizing Pak-UAE relations, potentially paving the way for deeper cooperation and mutual prosperity.
