On 6th September 2024, Pakistan celebrated its 59th Defence Day to honor the sacrifices of its armed forces during the 1965 war with India. Across the country, the day began with special prayers for the martyrs, a 21-gun salute, and wreath-laying ceremonies at memorials such as Yadgar-e-Shuhada in Islamabad.
At GHQ Rawalpindi, President Dr. Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, and Army Chief General Asim Munir led the ceremony, paying tribute to the fallen heroes. General Munir reaffirmed the military’s commitment to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty, while an aerial display by the Pakistan Air Force and sea exercises by the Navy showcased the country’s defense capabilities. Educational institutions also organized special events highlighting the significance of the 1965 war.
In Abu Dhabi, the Pakistani embassy held a special event for the expatriate community, attended by embassy officials and UAE dignitaries.
