The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has postponed its planned rally in Islamabad, which was scheduled for August 22, 2024. The decision to delay the event was made following instructions from PTI’s founding chairman, Imran Khan, who is currently detained in Adiala Jail. The party leadership cited concerns about potential unrest and possible government interference, which could have led to chaos during the rally. Local authorities had already taken preventive measures by placing containers on key roads to block the rally from proceeding.
Azam Swati, a senior PTI leader, visited Imran Khan in jail to discuss the situation. After the meeting, it was decided to delay the rally to avoid any potential for disorder. PTI’s Secretary General Omar Ayub confirmed that the rally would be rescheduled, with a new date set for September 8, 2024. The Islamabad district administration has since granted a fresh non-objection certificate (NOC) for the event, allowing it to proceed under strict conditions. The rally must conclude by 7 PM on September 8, after which participants are required to disperse from the site.
This postponement is significant as it reflects PTI’s cautious approach in navigating the current political environment. With Imran Khan’s directives, the party is aiming to maintain public support while avoiding confrontations that could lead to further instability. The rescheduled rally is expected to draw significant attention, particularly given the heightened political tensions in the country
