Today, on August 26, 2024, mobile phone services have been suspended across several cities in Sindh, including Karachi, in observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). The suspension, enforced from morning until late evening, is part of stringent security measures to ensure the safety of mourners participating in the processions.
The Sindh government, alongside the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), ordered the shutdown to prevent any untoward incidents during the processions. The affected cities include Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, and Khairpur. Additionally, a ban on pillion riding has been imposed across the province as an extra precaution.
These measures are standard during significant religious observances in Pakistan, particularly in cities like Karachi, where large gatherings pose security challenges. The authorities have deployed additional security forces, conducted aerial surveillance, and imposed traffic restrictions to maintain peace.
The suspension of mobile services, although inconvenient for many, is a critical part of the broader security framework aimed at safeguarding lives during this sensitive time
