Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the distribution of 100,000 free laptops among talented students across the country on merit, during an International Youth Day event in Islamabad on Tuesday. Premier stated that the distribution of these laptops will cover all four provinces, the federal capital Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, and will be based purely on merit, without any nepotism. He added that these laptops would be separate from the scheme for laptops through interest-based loans. Referring to Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, the prime minister mentioned that Pakistan’s victory on May 10 against a numerically larger and more boastful enemy had instilled a new vigour in the entire nation. He urged the youth to build on the spirit of this achievement and work hard to bring honour to the country. Shehbaz Sharif Reaffirms Pakistan's Commitment to SCO at Virtual Summit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan reaffirmed his country's support for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on July 4, 2023, at a virtual summit organized by India, the SCO's rotating chairperson. The 23rd meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State this year featured important conversations about regional security, economic cooperation, and the organization's future course.


Shehbaz Sharif underlined Pakistan's commitment to the SCO, stressing the organization's function in promoting prosperity and stability in the region. He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to the objectives and tenets of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), emphasizing the necessity of working together to address shared issues like environmental degradation, economic volatility, and terrorism. The Prime Minister also emphasized the possibility of improved member state collaboration in sectors including energy, trade, and technology.


The admission of Iran as a new member of the SCO, which represents the organization's growing influence and outreach, was one of the main topics of debate during the summit. Pakistan's strategic interest in fortifying regional ties and its dedication to multilateralism were highlighted by Sharif's involvement. Furthermore, Sharif's attendance at the summit demonstrated a readiness to engage diplomatically and strive toward shared regional interests, even in the face of present tensions with India. This action was viewed as a step in the right direction toward lowering tensions and fostering harmony and collaboration throughout South Asia.


In general, Sharif's reiteration of Pakistan's commitment to the SCO shows the nation's intention to actively participate in regional affairs and support the stability and collective advancement of its member nations.
