DG ISPR Addresses National Security and Internal Stability: Calls for Accountability and Constructive Politics

During today's press conference, DG ISPR Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry addressed several critical issues concerning national security and internal stability. The session began with an emphasis on counter-terrorism, highlighting ongoing efforts against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups. Major General Chaudhry reiterated that Afghan soil is being used by TTP to launch attacks against Pakistan, stressing that there is irrefutable evidence of these activities.

The press conference then shifted focus to the events of May 9, 2023, where significant unrest and attacks on military installations occurred. Major General Chaudhry called for the punishment of those responsible for the riots to uphold the justice system's credibility. He indicated that the military supports the formation of a judicial commission to investigate not only the May 9 riots but also past political upheavals, such as the 2014 sit-in led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Regarding dialogue with political entities, Major General Chaudhry made it clear that no discussions would be held with groups that attack the military or propagate anti-army narratives. He urged political actors involved in such activities to abandon their confrontational tactics and engage in constructive politics.

The press conference also covered the broader implications of these internal conflicts on Pakistan's security and governance, emphasizing the need for a united front against terrorism and political instability. The ISPR's stance has drawn reactions from various political quarters, with PTI criticizing the press conference as contradictory and lacking rationale.

Overall, the ISPR's briefing underscored the military's firm position on internal security and the necessity of accountability and dialogue within the constitutional framework to ensure national stability.
