WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, has rolled out a new feature called Chat Filters. The new addition allows users to better organize their conversations on the app.
Chat Filters provides three different filtering options when viewing chats - All, Unread, and Groups. Selecting All will display all conversations as usual. The Unread filter surfaces any chats or groups that contain unread messages. This helps users easily catch up on conversations they may have missed.
Finally, tapping the Groups filter shows only group chats the user is participating in. With countless group chat threads on WhatsApp nowadays, this dedicated view makes it simpler to check updates and messages across multiple group discussions.
The filters are located in a bar above the list of chats, similar to how categories work in other apps. Users simply need to update to the latest version of WhatsApp from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to access the new Chat Filters feature on Android or iOS devices respectively.
According to the report, Chat Filters has already rolled out widely. We were able to verify its availability on WhatsApp for both Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24+ devices in India.
The addition of chat filtering is a welcome enhancement that builds on WhatsApp's existing search functionality. Being able to sort conversations by type offers a more organized browsing experience and makes it easier to focus on particular unread or group messages. It's a simple but useful change for the end user.
Chat Filters demonstrates WhatsApp's ongoing efforts to improve usability on its platform, which has over 2 billion monthly users worldwide. The Meta-owned service continues optimizing older features and introducing new tools to make communication and messaging on the app as streamlined as possible.
