Muscat, Oman - Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman will travel to the United Arab Emirates on Monday to meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to the state-run Oman News Agency and UAE's WAM news agency, the two leaders will discuss bilateral relations between their countries as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Oman and the UAE share strong historic and cultural ties. The sultan's visit aims to further enhance cooperation across economic, political and security matters.
During their meeting, Sultan Haitham and Sheikh Mohamed are expected to review the deep-rooted ties between Oman and the UAE which date back five decades.
Their dialogue will focus on ways to strengthen collaboration between the two Gulf neighbors in fields like energy, trade, investment, infrastructure, and tourism. Coordination on regional security and stability initiatives may also be addressed.
Bilateral trade between Oman and UAE surpassed 5 billion Omani rials (over $13 billion) in 2023. The UAE is one of Oman's top trading partners and has significant investments in sectors like industry, banking, real estate and construction across Oman.
By bringing the leadership of the two nations together, the state visit seeks to give impetus to partnership across different areas and ensure the interests of Oman and the UAE are aligned on critical international issues. It demonstrates the strong coordination between Sultan Haitham and Sheikh Mohamed as the region faces complex challenges.
The friendly meeting in Abu Dhabi is expected to boost political and economic ties going forward. It underlines the fraternal Gulf Cooperation Council bonds between the neighboring countries.
