Starting today, users of Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Messenger will notice new versions of Meta AI integrated throughout the apps. Powered by Meta's most advanced AI model called LLaMA 3, Meta AI will be available in search bars, chats, newsfeeds and more.

People will now be able to ask Meta AI questions to obtain information and help with various tasks. Examples given include finding concert dates in a city or recommendations for a certain type of restaurant.

LLaMA 3 represents a significant upgrade over Meta's previous AI technology, able to generate prose, conduct conversations and create images according to the company. With this new model, Meta AI is said to be the most capable freely available AI system.

The rollout is Meta's biggest integration of AI to date and aims to place the technology in the most used and visible areas across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. It exceeds prior initiatives in scope and reach.

While other tech giants are also incorporating AI into products, Meta's efforts stand out due to the vast scale of its platforms spanning billions of users globally. The company also openly published the technical details of LLaMA 3, allowing any developer to build on the technology for free.

Only time will tell if users embrace Meta AI for its promised usefulness. But Meta is clearly positioning AI as a core part of its suite of applications going forward.
