Shehbaz Sharif took oath as the Prime Minister of Pakistan today (April 11) in the presence of the President of Pakistan and dozens of members of the National Assembly.
During the oath taking ceremony, Shehbaz Sharif promised to run the government based on the principles of transparency, justice and rule of law enshrined in the constitution of Pakistan. He said that he will adhere to all the principles and laws of the United Nations.
Shehbaz Sharif has become the Prime Minister after the vote of no confidence against the government of former Prime Minister Imran Khan held in the National Assembly in Islamabad. His appointment was seen as necessary to deal with the political instability and economic crisis facing Pakistan amid a mixed situation.
Shehbaz Sharif heads the Pakistan Muslim League-N party. He is the brother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Pakistan hopes that Shehbaz Sharif will help restore political stability as well as economic stability in the country.
After taking the oath, Shehbaz Sharif's main challenge will be to stabilize Pakistan's economy and address the issues of inflation and unemployment. He will also have to manage relations with other institutions including the military. It remains to be seen how effective his government will be during the ongoing political polarization in Pakistan.
