Pakistan's Test team, led by Skipper Shan Masood, is gearing up for a historic challenge as they aim to secure their first-ever Test series win in Australia. Masood, optimistic despite Pakistan's previous struggles down under, emphasized the opportunity to rewrite history during a press conference in Lahore.
Taking over the captaincy from Babar Azam after a disappointing World Cup campaign, Masood expressed his determination to produce positive results. "When you have not achieved something in history, then you have an opportunity to change it," he declared at a pre-departure news conference in Lahore.
Despite being at the top of the World Test Championship 2023–25 cycle, Pakistan is well aware of the formidable Australian side, which recently clinched the previous championship cycle and secured the 50-over World Cup. The first match in Perth on December 14 kicks off the series, followed by games in Melbourne (December 26–30) and Sydney (January 3–7).
Adding to the optimism is the appointment of former England skipper Adam Hollioake as the team's batting coach. Masood sees Hollioake's expertise in Australian conditions as crucial for the team's performance.
The skipper expressed confidence in Babar Azam's ability to shine on the tour, stating that the team's batting revolves around him. Masood's vision for the series is to play an entertaining and fighting brand of cricket that resonates with fans.
