Israel’s interception of Gaza flotilla draws global ire as Pakistan demands release of detained activists

Pakistan and several other  countries  on Thursday condemned Israel’s “dastardly attack” on the  Global Sumud Flotilla  (GSF) after its forces intercepted the flotilla heading to break Israel’s siege of Gaza and deliver aid. Israeli forces  began intercepting  the flotilla’s latest bid to reach Gaza late last night, the fleet said. Israel has so far intercepted 39 boats with foreign activists on board to Gaza, leaving only one vessel still sailing towards the Palestinian enclave, the flotilla organisers said today. The 45-vessel flotilla, with activists and politicians including  Greta Thunberg  on board, left Spain last month to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza, where the United Nations has warned of famine. Former Pakistani senator  Mushtaq Ahmad Khan  was also on board. Hours after Tel Aviv’s move drew global condemnation, Israeli foreign ministry posted on X that all on board the flotilla were safe would be “deported to Europe”...

Pursuing Peaceful Dialogue: Pakistan's Stance on Regional Relations

In a recent summit on mineral development in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to pursuing peaceful dialogue with its neighbor, India. He emphasized that war is no longer an option, and both countries must engage in serious discussions to address their shared concerns and work towards resolving longstanding issues.

As a nuclear power, Pakistan holds its defensive capabilities as a means of safeguarding its sovereignty. PM Shehbaz emphasized that a nuclear conflict would be catastrophic for both nations and underlined the need to explore peaceful resolutions to prevent any escalation of tensions.

Pakistan has experienced the detrimental consequences of armed conflicts in the past, diverting vital resources away from development and prosperity. Instead of engaging in hostilities, PM Shehbaz highlighted the importance of economic competition and utilizing resources to uplift the lives of their respective citizens.

The relations between Pakistan and India have been fraught with challenges since their independence. The decision to revoke the special autonomy of occupied Kashmir by India in 2019 led to a suspension of bilateral ties and ongoing deadlock between the two nations.

Despite the prevailing difficulties, PM Shehbaz extended conditional offers for talks with India on all outstanding issues. He stressed the need for India to address and understand Pakistan's serious concerns through peaceful and meaningful dialogue. A mutual understanding of each other's perspectives is essential for building stable and constructive bilateral relations.

In addition to India, PM Shehbaz also expressed the desire for friendly relations with the United States. He emphasized the importance of mutual respect and trust in fostering a strong partnership that serves the interests of both nations.

Pakistan's stance on pursuing peaceful dialogue is commendable and offers hope for regional stability. By opting for diplomacy over confrontation, the nation demonstrates its commitment to resolving issues through dialogue and cooperation. It is crucial for both Pakistan and India to engage in sincere discussions and find common ground to move towards a more harmonious future.

In the pursuit of peace and economic development, let us hope that dialogue becomes the preferred path for addressing shared concerns, and that both nations can work towards building a future of mutual respect, prosperity, and cooperation.
