The UAE’s Strategic Shift: Why the Pivot to Asia Is a Survival Necessity

The geopolitical landscape of the Middle East is shifting beneath our feet. While the world watches the friction of the U.S.-Iran conflict, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is quietly-and brilliantly rewriting its economic destiny. It’s no longer just about being a bridge between East and West; the U AE is fundamentally deciding that its future lies in the East. Navigating Beyond the Shadow of Regional Conflict In my view, the UAE’s recent distancing from traditional blocs like OPEC and the GCC isn't just a policy change; it’s a masterclass in strategic autonomy. For decades, the Gulf states have been viewed through the lens of Western dependency. However, the recent waves of drone and missile threats have proven that the UAE can no longer afford to be a bystander in a -dangerous neighborhood. By pivoting to Asia, the Emirates is seeking strategic depth that the West simply cannot provide in the current climate. Why the UAE’s Exit from OPEC Was a Bold Power Move The decision to leav...

PTI Faces More Departures as Maleeka Bokhari, Jamshed Cheema, and Musarrat Jamshed Cheema Resign from the Party

In a recent blow to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), three prominent party leaders, Maleeka Bokhari, Jamshed Cheema, and Musarrat Jamshed Cheema, have announced their resignation from the Imran Khan-led party. This move comes in the wake of the May 9 riots that shook the nation and has led to a wave of discontent within the PTI ranks.

During a press conference held in Islamabad, Maleeka Bokhari expressed her condemnation of the events that transpired on May 9, describing them as "very painful" for every Pakistani. Bokhari, a former member of the National Assembly, emphasized that her decision to dissociate from the party was not made under duress but stemmed from her desire to play a positive role in Pakistan and spend more time with her family.

Bokhari's resignation came shortly after her release from Adiala Jail, where she had been detained under Section 4 of the Maintenance of Public Order. Her departure from the PTI further adds to the growing list of leaders who have chosen to distance themselves from the party following the recent unrest.

In her press conference, Maleeka Bokhari supported the authorities' decision to investigate the May 9 events and called for those responsible for the violent acts to be held accountable. Her stance underscores the need for justice and the importance of ensuring that those involved in the unrest face appropriate legal consequences.

The departure of Maleeka Bokhari, Jamshed Cheema, and Musarrat Jamshed Cheema is undoubtedly a setback for the PTI. It highlights the challenges the party faces in maintaining unity and dealing with the aftermath of the May 9 riots. As the PTI navigates through this critical period, it must address the concerns of its members and take decisive actions to restore confidence within its ranks.

The PTI leadership must engage in introspection, reevaluate its policies, and actively work towards addressing the grievances of its members. It is crucial for the party to foster an environment of inclusivity, transparency, and accountability to regain the trust and support of its members and the public.

As these resignations send shockwaves through the PTI, the party must focus on rebuilding and strengthening its internal structure. Open dialogue, genuine efforts to address concerns, and swift action against those responsible for the violence will be vital in shaping the party's future.

The PTI now faces the challenge of rebuilding its image and rallying its remaining members to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to the party's goals. Only by addressing internal grievances, strengthening party unity, and ensuring justice for the May 9 events can the PTI regain its footing and move forward effectively.

As political dynamics continue to evolve in Pakistan, it is crucial for political parties to navigate challenges with resilience, introspection, and a commitment to democratic values. The PTI's response to these recent departures will be a significant test of its leadership and ability to adapt in the face of adversity.

In a recent development, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) clarified to the Lahore High Court that there is no longer a ban on broadcasting former Prime Minister Imran Khan's speeches. This revelation came during the hearing of a petition filed by Imran, who had challenged Pemra's decision to prohibit satellite TV channels from airing his speeches and press talks. The initial ban was imposed swiftly after Imran criticized former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, accusing him of shielding current rulers in alleged corruption cases. Imran argued that Pemra's ban was fueled by vengeance, leading to a legal battle that spanned eight hearings. During the recent court session, Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza stressed that Pemra should refrain from pressuring TV channels on the concerns raised by the petitioner. Surprisingly, Pemra's counsel, Haroon Duggal, stated unequivocally that there is no existing ban on broadcasting Imran Khan's speeches. This reso...
