Israel’s interception of Gaza flotilla draws global ire as Pakistan demands release of detained activists

Pakistan and several other  countries  on Thursday condemned Israel’s “dastardly attack” on the  Global Sumud Flotilla  (GSF) after its forces intercepted the flotilla heading to break Israel’s siege of Gaza and deliver aid. Israeli forces  began intercepting  the flotilla’s latest bid to reach Gaza late last night, the fleet said. Israel has so far intercepted 39 boats with foreign activists on board to Gaza, leaving only one vessel still sailing towards the Palestinian enclave, the flotilla organisers said today. The 45-vessel flotilla, with activists and politicians including  Greta Thunberg  on board, left Spain last month to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza, where the United Nations has warned of famine. Former Pakistani senator  Mushtaq Ahmad Khan  was also on board. Hours after Tel Aviv’s move drew global condemnation, Israeli foreign ministry posted on X that all on board the flotilla were safe would be “deported to Europe”...

Clashes at Al-Aqsa Mosque Lead to Arrests and Tensions in Jerusalem

Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a flashpoint for tension between Israelis and Palestinians for decades, and the latest clashes have led to a significant number of arrests. According to a police spokesperson, over 350 people were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday after violent clashes broke out inside the mosque.

The clashes reportedly began after Israeli police entered the mosque compound and fired tear gas and rubber bullets at worshippers who were protesting against Israeli settlers' efforts to take over Palestinian homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. The situation escalated quickly, with some protesters throwing rocks and other objects at the police.

The police responded with force, using stun grenades and other measures to disperse the crowds. According to the police statement, many of the people arrested were "masked individuals, stone and firework hurlers/throwers, and individuals suspected of desecrating the mosque."

The clashes at Al-Aqsa Mosque have led to renewed tensions between Israelis and Palestinians, with both sides blaming the other for the violence. Israeli officials have defended the police's actions, saying that they were necessary to maintain order and prevent further violence.

However, Palestinian leaders have condemned the arrests and the use of force by the Israeli police. They have called for international intervention to prevent further escalation of the conflict and to protect Palestinian rights in Jerusalem.

The situation in Jerusalem remains tense, with both sides warning of further violence if the situation is not resolved peacefully. The clashes at Al-Aqsa Mosque highlight the deep-seated divisions between Israelis and Palestinians and the complex nature of the conflict.

The international community has called for calm and restraint on both sides, urging leaders to work towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The violence at Al-Aqsa Mosque serves as a reminder of the urgent need for a negotiated settlement that addresses the concerns of both Israelis and Palestinians and ensures peace and security for all.
